Current music:Sonata Arctica - Don't Say a Word

I have invented a new word, and wish to spread it as much as possible. I do, however, recognise, not all of you will have the use for it that I do. "Craberdashery" is my new word, prompted by too much caffeine and sugar, too little sleep, some silly friends, and, of course, my beloved crab hat. Clearly in order to help me in my cause you all should go out and purchase crab hats as well. :P Actually, I should go into the crab-hat-making business so as to be able to order business cards for myself where I get to title myself a "craberdasher" and sell you all your crab hats. Obviously.

On a completely unrelated topic, I'm wondering if there's any way for searching for music not by artist or style, but characteristics. I can almost guarantee anything with a decent amount of syncopation in a minor key will at least entertain me. Odd meter? Ditto. Ideally, I'd love to find a random stash of minor, melodic music with syncopated bits and mixed meter. I know this will never, ever happen, but still.

It just seems there are a bunch of one off songs that I really enjoy while not particularly caring about the rest of the bands' works. This is not ideal, clearly.

Anyhow, happy Tuesday. And back to the grindstone. /:

Did the crab hat come from a trip to Maryland, by any chance?

I'll never forget flying from Logan to BWI and thinking "Wow, lobster hat country to crab hat country in a couple of hours..."

Nope - I don't end up in Maryland enough, and so didn't have the patience. I ordered it online instead.

There are actually a disturbing number of crab hat options thanks to the internet. People are *weird.*

;)

Pandora.com! Start putting in your oddly syncopated requests, and it's eerie. Turned me on to Pink Martini.

Thanks for the tip! I'd tried it in the past, but not with a specific end in mind, and my taste in music is sort of muddled, so the resorts were sort of equally muddled.

This is a great idea, though!

Yeah- putting in everything I liked confused it. But starting channels got me pop *or* death metal, instead of Bob Dylan as some freakish compromise.

Also, I think Pandora does the kind of music analysis you're talking about, from what I've seen -- and you can keep giving it feedback to get it to improve its analysis. Have you tried it?

I didn't realise it was actually that detailed.

The internet is so awesome. Or maybe just humanity and technology brought to my doorstep are so awesome.

Aaahhmmm num num numm!

Which is to say, "doesn't look like a crab, doesn't talk like people!"

But perhaps someday I will put together a lobstrocity ensemble and scare anyone who has read any of the Dark Tower. :)
